The Yangtze River is known to have civilization as far back as 2 million years ago. Due to its convenience, the Yangtze River has been key to China’s population, agriculture, and economic status. Irrigation systems were built helping agriculture and in turn bringing wealth to the areas around the Yangtze River. The river also served as a boundary between the north and the south at one time making a political impact. The river has gone through various changes over many decades including the creation of dams in the 1950’s to the construction of reconnecting the lakes starting in 2002, up until 2010 when the government started a network to protect areas around the Yangtze River and is growing to other parts to this day.
